Homemade Biscuits & Buttermilk
For years I made biscuits from scratch using all-purpose flour, salt and baking powder, and never used a recipe. They were always fluffy and delicious. One day my biscuits just started being so-so. That’s when I stopped making them very often. Not sure if the baking powder was old, had something wrong with it or what. I tried several different brands. Still, not so good. After awhile, I started buying self rising flour again, and my biscuits are wonderful. I just follow the recipe on the label now just to be on the safe side. LOL
I love Buttermilk Biscuits, but don’t use buttermilk for anything else besides homemade Ranch salad dressing, so it usually goes to waste. I just make “buttermilk” from 1 c. whole milk with 1 Tbs. lemon juice or vinegar added. Let sit for about 5-10 minutes, stir gently, and voilà!! Use in the place of milk or buttermilk. I even use it when making the homemade Ranch salad dressing.
