About
Construction in progress. . .
(Edited)
I consider what I write about, and how I live, to be mostly old-fashioned. This has been my way of life for many years. It may not appeal to everybody. And, I realize it isn't possible for some to live this way, but take from it what may help you, or what you might like to do. And I want to add, I'm realizing every day, I'm not as thorough as I should be about researching as well as writing about some of the more touchy topics. I feel a need to give my own opinion about certain things that have affected me, in my life, and others that I'm familiar with, but certainly this isn't written as a set-in-stone guide for everyone.
We've been married for 48 years, and I've been "homemaking" since 1975!
Just a sidenote here:
Years ago, maybe in the 1980s or 1990s, I wanted to share some of the old-time traditional pastimes (along with cooking, gardening, for example) of my mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and close older relatives and friends. In fact, I wrote a book about this, transfered it to my computer and lost it in a computer crash. I hope I can find my handwritten copy to share soon, or maybe try to have it published. I did have brainstorms, and remembered parts of it, and made a list (only) . . . And parts of this website and others I have contain bits and pieces of what I've been able to remember and rewrite, although the inspiration seems at a loss after so many years, health problems, and changes in our living conditions that comes with age. At least for us, anyway. It would be nice to step in that fountain of youth I've written about if for no other reason than to remember the good old days.
That was one of the reasons I even created this website, was to not only share some of the stories of my maternal relatives, but also their lives, along with the good and the bad. I've been focusing on the good things mostly, but I know we all can ,
But recently*** I had a sort of epiphany that some of these women were doing these things out of a place of necessity, but they were blessed with a soothing and satisfying experiences in the sewing, and even the drudgery of the necessary things like gardening, cleaning and cooking. They worked hard at all of these things, even the things lots of us consider to be just a pastime, and were rewarded for their diligence by something called ASMR.*** It gives me a whole new perspective and appreciation of the hard lives of these precious women. But it also gives me satisfaction in knowing they were probably enjoying it, as well.
*** I recently learned from my young granddaughters, age 8, 12, and 14, there is actually a term for this called ASMR. Wow! Young people telling an old woman things she “knew” but didn't have an explanation, all along, that there is actually a term for it, and it is healthy for us, has sort of explained why I love it so much! They even have their Pawpaw saying how something like feeding and watching the cats in the barn is so very satisfying.🐈 🐈 🐈 😻
I can imagine some of the things that brought that sense of satisfaction to the older generation. For instance:
***Please start young, as you would much rather them be addicted to sewing or knitting than all the other options out there. And of course, outside activities are important, as well.

I can imagine some of the things that brought that sense of satisfaction to the older generation. For instance:
- Rocking
- Sewing
- Sweeping
- Hoeing in the garden
- Swishing clothes in the washtub
- Kneading bread
- Chopping weeds with a scythe
- Bubble wrap
- Chewing gum
- Tapping a pencil eraser on the table
- Eating soft ice cream with crunchy bits
- Playing video games
- Texting
***Please start young, as you would much rather them be addicted to sewing or knitting than all the other options out there. And of course, outside activities are important, as well.
Just know:
- I'm not collecting email addresses.
- I don't have a newsletter, but that would be nice.
- I don't do e-books, although I'd like to learn how! (UPDATE, I finally had one published. It's a short little booklet, as I was just trying to figure out how to do it. If you're interested, it is in the Menu under "Having a Plan".)
- I just do things the old-fashioned way most of the time.
- I'm really not trying to impress anybody, make tons of money, or be somebody that I'm not.
- I just write when prompted, on certain topics, when I remember things, and things I feel are important biblically as well as practical things for homemakers, wives, mothers, girls, etc. And yes, teaching boys life skills matters too.
- I want what I write to be a blessing to someone, and that's what it's all about. I also want to leave some sort of legacy to my children, grandchildren, and great grands. Hopefully someday, someone will take up where I left off. I do hope that I've instilled, or at least planted the seed to live a more humble, godly life. even with the responsibilities that are spoken of in the scriptures I've pointed out throughout this website.
- I just know what I know, nothing more. I have tons of ideas, memories, but sporadically think of them, and soon forget if I get distracted.
- I'm also compiling a cookbook, re-compiling I might say. Actually two, counting the one I started before I even had internet (lost it in a computer crash later). The latest one got disassembled into seperate files instead of a book file, thanks to a certain slow web browser, and possibly the app I was using. So when I get back to correcting all of that, I'll share the info. . .in the near future, Lord willing.
