Pretty Porches
So, I just want to give a couple of tips on how I've tried to make my front (and back) porch a little prettier. I use these items, rotate according to season, tidying up, sweeping, or dusting when I change things around. It's just a fun thing I like to do. Sweeping the steps and sidwalk, puttering around. I'm a little slower these days, but I still try to do a few little things when I can.
The only other problems I have at certain times are spiders, ants, and mosquitoes.
So back to something more pleasant. . .IF I HAVEN'T SCARED YOU BACK INSIDE ALREADY. SORRY, I JUST CAN'T "NOT" SAY THESE THINGS.
Well, I do still love my porch. . .in all the seasons. I wear a neck scarf, gloves, boots and a cozy hat in winter. And I'll have to say, I practically live on the porch at certain times of the year, it's a fun place to be . . . it's just a fun space to read, tend to my plants, plan a garden, and I even cook on the porch with an electric griddle at times. (I need a new one, as I wore it out)...lol And since we live in the country, it's something lots of folks do, so they aren't staring, wondering what the heck you're doing. lol. . .and the food just tastes so good outdoors!
- Lamps. . .Just makes it feel nice to have extra light, at times. Being able to read a book in the evening, or crochet, in the nice fresh air. My lamp shade is a beauty, isn't it? A pretty from my daughter. 🥰
- Candles. . .Lends a cozy feel to sitting on the porch after supper, sipping your favorite beverage and listening to the crickets chirping.
- Mini white lights . . .
- A table, with a tablecloth.
- Of course, flowers.
- Deco boxes filled with little goodies like hand cream, sunglasses, garden seeds, or a book.
- Bird houses. Hanging or on a bench or table.
- Potted plants, from tiny ones to huge ones, if space allows.
- A porch swing
- Of course rocking chairs
- A pretty throw rug, not just a door mat, but a pretty 5x7 rug to go in front of a table or under the swing.
- Of course you'll want to place things carefully away from small children, such as the candles, and be sure any electric cords are out of the way.
The only other problems I have at certain times are spiders, ants, and mosquitoes.
- SPIDERS: Always check under tables, chairs, swings, etc. for spider webs and spider eggs!! They love to hide in the corners, cracks, and crevices underneath furniture. If you find little white spiked balls, these are black widows or brown widows. Definitely get rid of them, they are poisonous. If you wait until they hatch you will have baby ones everywhere. The baby ones are poisonous too. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH ON THIS. . . hospitalization and many doctor visits are required with these spider bites!
- ANTS: Ants love to get in flower pots, as well as underneath flower pots and lay eggs. They also quickly discover any crumbs, dead bugs, moths etc., that are on any and all surfaces. You have to be tidy, or you'll have to deal with them. Some bite - sting really bad! These stings are dangerous in large numbers, FOR CHILDREN, especially. . .so if your child gets stung over a large area, or many in one spot, get medical attention.
- MOSQUITOES: I'm sure everyone knows how to control mosquitoes, but just in case someone doesn't. . .I'm going to say, don't let water stand in pots, buckets, pools and/or get stagnated anywhere. It's the perfect breeding grounds for them.
- Mosquitoes do carry diseases, so don't be careless. (BIRDS DO TOO) . . .DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH.
So back to something more pleasant. . .IF I HAVEN'T SCARED YOU BACK INSIDE ALREADY. SORRY, I JUST CAN'T "NOT" SAY THESE THINGS.
- Oh, the chickens. How could I forget the chickens.🐓🐓🐓🐔🐥🐣🥚🥚🥚 Yes. . .
- And the cats.🐈🐈🐈🐱🐱🐱 Oh, yes. . .😹

- Having a cute little childrens table is fun for them, and just a cute addition even if you don't have small children. You can use the space for lots of thingS such as plants or a cute tea set.
- I have quite a few funny, even scary porch stories to tell, so check back later. I might post them in the blog if you don't see them here.
